Located in Stilwell, Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, this home had been a beloved family hub for many years. But when the kids grew up and the homeowners found themselves ready for the next chapter, they knew it was time for a change. Their space felt cramped, dark, and outdated, no longer reflecting their cheerful, young-at-heart personalities. What they craved was light, color, pattern, and casual comfort—somewhere they could host family gatherings and truly relax.
A Space for Relaxation and Connection.
Our mission was clear: create an open, welcoming living space that radiates energy and warmth. We started by using a light, neutral backdrop to brighten the room while grounding the design with worn leathers and rustic finishes that spoke to their eclectic style. This approach seamlessly tied in with their kitchen remodel, which also opened into the living area.
Thoughtful Design Details. We designed a new bookshelf and fireplace surround finished in crisp white to visually expand the space and match the kitchen cabinetry. The prominent blue in the kitchen was carried through the living room with furnishings and accessories, creating continuity throughout. A stainless steel, arabesque fireplace tile added subtle texture and dimension while complementing both the kitchen and the living area.
A Space for Both Relaxation and Entertainment.
For a balanced, comfortable feel, we replaced bulky kitchen cabinets that once crowded the space with a patterned, rustic sideboard, artwork, and a bench, offering a charming focal point that invites relaxation. Custom upholstery with just the right proportions was chosen for maximum comfort and durability—perfect for hosting guests or curling up with a good book.
Subtle Patterns and Rustic Charm.
Subtle patterns were incorporated throughout the space, from diamond motifs in the entry rug and stair carpeting to the mirrors and new railing. A rustic console table, which expands into a dining table, adds a special touch for family holiday gatherings. Every detail was thoughtfully selected to create an inviting atmosphere and a space the homeowners can be proud to call their own.
